As 2017 is drawing to an end, we thought we’d take the opportunity to look back at our year, as well as taking a sneak peek at what Team Karol has planned for the year ahead!
Our year kicked-off with a bang, as Karol was named on The Government Communication Service (GCS) and Crown Commercial Service (CCS) framework for PR as part of The Hyperlocal Everywhere™ Network! Managed by lead agency Spring, the network consists of five award-winning regional strategic communication agencies from across the UK and is one of only a small number of PR companies eligible to bid for and deliver government PR campaigns.
The good times kept flowing with our successful launch of Chaophraya Newcastle. Celebrating the heart and soul of Thai culture, our launch showcased Chaophraya’s authentic dining experience and we’re delighted it was recognised with a prestigious Gold award in the Best Event category at the recent CIPR awards!
February brought everyone together in The Old Pub to raise some much-needed awareness for a brilliant cause – the Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity’s (GOSH) ‘Bad Hair Day’ event. The day was full of crazy hairdos, lots of laughs and most importantly, lots of money raised for such a worthy cause.
A hop and a jump later and spring had arrived, the sun was shining and a new client of ours combined two of our favourite things – tea and gin, what could be better?! We successfully launched Noveltea, an alcoholic tea blend created by Newcastle University pals Vincent Efferoth and Lukas Passia here in the North East, brewing up a highly successful launch event at Fenwicks and ongoing media engagement. We’re delighted that Noveltea went on to scoop a Newcastle University Rise Up Award – congrats guys!
Noveltea wasn’t our only client on winning form. In April, Hadrian Technology, one of the UK’s leading CCTV security design, supply and installation companies was named in the inaugural Financial Times FT1000 league table of Europe’s fastest growing companies. We’re chuffed to have received a Gold award in the Business and Corporate Communications category at this year’s CIPR awards for our work positioning Hadrian Technology as a pioneering tech company here in the North East.
We love a good catch up and this year has definitely been one of industry events and networking. From exhibiting at the Tees Valley Business Summit & North East Expo, to popping along to the brilliant North East Times breakfasts or speaking to budding new PR talent to offer our advice on breaking into the industry – it’s been nonstop. With a strong heritage here in Newcastle, we’re always amazed at how much the city has changed in the 25 years since Karol began – and we’re passionate about promoting the region’s thriving business community. That’s why it’s great to see so many events focusing on Newcastle’s strengths as a digital and tech hub and have the opportunity to take part in the likes of PNE Group’s Advancing the North East, or more recently the brilliant Newcastle Scaleup Summit in November.
All in all it’s been a busy but successful year – our work was once again recognised by the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR) with a quartet of victories, we’ve welcomed new members to our team and are excited to be working with numerous new clients. But we’re not putting our feet up just yet!
Looking ahead to 2018, we’re already hopping with enthusiasm about our top secret partnership that will be revealed not before too long…
But for now, we wish you a very Merry Christmas full of festive cheer and lots of delicious food and drink! And we look forward to welcoming you to The Old Pub very soon!
A thought piece from Karol – the forensic PR people.
